The correct answer (according to the CIA factbook) has 19 letters
I cannot see any further than the 5 letter word although I am not confident that we are not being tripped up with it.  There is a terrible stench of Bata about this one.
I also can't find anything with more than 5 letters
A clue would help please gladmac
Never mention Bata again!!!
Google - Qasr al-Sham.  It should come up with a five letter answer.
I'm going for the five letter answer, but likewise can still remember B*t*.
I'm going for the four-letter one. AND I worked for B*T*!
lets stop being cryptic now -
5 - egypt
what are 4 and 19 ???
Realised what a silly moo I am.
Def not Egypt.
Looked on encarta atlas and think I'll go with iraq.
Q4 Coole
Q19 Delius
Q65 - If you google qasr al-sham, it gives the answer Egypt.
If you type in the full question leaving out qasr al-sham, it comes up with Iraq.
If you type in the full question it comes up with a load of rubbish.

Can't decide which is right!!
Question 19 - His first name was Percy.

The Arabic  name for the  Babylon in Iraq  is Atal - Babil (Britannica).

Look for  a translation of Qasr al-Sham and it all makes sense.

I actually meant what was the place with 19 letters.
Q 19 - I don't think it's delius.
I agree with BOAW - if I've understood the 1st name comment
bobadob - I've tried to translate & come up with castle or palace for qasr; & candle or beacon for sham.
Tried encarta & brittanica and still no wiser.
Am I being particularly stupid here?

Could there be a Fort Babylon?

I agree with the Percy reference to question 19. Delius did use it but only after it was done by er! Percy ______

Sorry, SillyMoo, not to answer earlier.  My clue was the conventional long name form of this country which is the Arab Republic of .....

Q19 Thanks for the pointer in the right direction. I'd come across Percy whilst I was searching but unfortunately plumped for Delius. How stupid!!

Still trying to verify Q65.
Q65 - I think I'm going with Egypt for this one. It's driving me potty.
