Many thanks for two answers I could not find your spelling in my dictionary
www.britishsnoring.co.uk/...apnoea/what_is_sl
eep_apnoea.php

they even have an association called the British Apnoea Assoc.
You say tomato ... :-))
think that you may find that yours Naz is an American spelling

As its a British crossword and that we invented the language, though its root is greek, I would go the o route........
apnœa (Greek: απνοια, from α-, privative, πνεειν, to breathe)
"As its a British crossword ..."

Wasn't made clear on the OP, lol
I wish this one didn't keep popping up as C-word, it's very disconcerting!
US spelling is apnea, UK spelling is apnoea (as in Wiki link above).
Honestly, I'm past caring ... I'm only here for the post-count now.
well the issue may be settled if there is a 23d coming off the o or the a - that would make the decision very easy......chocaholic, over to you!!!!

The DT had one last week which was Arabic - berkha but the problem is that like a lot of Arabic words this is phonetic and variations include berka, burqa and burqha - I was taught (out there) that it was one of the latter two.......Maybe Andrew Carnegie had a point in wanting to simplify the bl--dy language.
