Because it's two words mixed into one.

The apostrophe is not there because two words are joined into one, for the same reason that there is no apostrophe in 'summertime', 'website', 'gravedigger' etc.

The apostrophe is there to indicate that a letter has been dropped, specifically the 'v' in 'even'. Cf isn't, hasn't, didn't etc...

Same is isn't or I'm, the apostrophe shows that a letter has been missed out.
It's one of them there things wot women have during labor: a contraction:)
