A reformed assistant ! (7) a?e?t?r - I think the answer is either Abetter or Abettor. Both words seem to fit the clue, but I cannot make my mind up. Any comments?

abetter
better = reformed
I always thought it was spelt ABETTOR but I see both spellings are accepted.
For this question then I agree with ABETTER
My dictionary gives only "abettor", so that might be the one.

Thanks for your comments, it looks like the toss of a coin. I think I will go for Abetter.
A lot of words that I thought ended in OR when I was at school now seem to use an ER ending. For example job adverts now are more likely to ask for advisers rather than advisors. Is this change coming from USA?
The same may be happening with abettors/abetters (although it's hardly an everyday word)
