Welcome to the second week in the reign of “Prince Philip” (aka centrino). I have taken note of the experience of last week, when the game proved too open ended and my chosen links were too regional. This time round I hope to be more general and much less parochial! I wish you greater success this weekend.

As stated last week, Burton on Trent had an essential links with Brewing, but it also plays host to an important off-shoot business of Marmite. Other well-established, local, large-scale industries include Pirelli Tyres, Foundries, Chain Making and -- a Pork Pie Factory! More recently, there has been the usual influx of warehouse/distribution centres and consumer outlets with such names as Waterstone’s, Argos, B&Q and Holland & Barrett.

Over these same years, my immediate family also was to undergo change. My sister got married in 1974 and provided me with two nephews in 1978 and 1980. My personal responsibilities changed radically after the untimely death of my father. First was the need for me to begin looking after the family garden (which was quite large) but which I grew to enjoy. Second was the need to acquire D.I.Y. skills, which was not really my cup of tea. Nevertheless, with the help and support of my newly acquired brother-in-law, I was eventually able to cope.

However, I digress. The time has come to get down to the business in hand! As far as my MM Links are concerned, I shall follow the rule on word length adopted by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter shall disclose my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past.
My second set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
