Throughout the month of February, I shall be known on MM Links as “Prince Philip” (my birth name being Philip, although you will know me as centrino). I have been taking part in both MM & KM Links for a couple of years now and I never dreamt that one day I would be selected as a setter!

I have always lived in the general area of Burton on Trent, so the Brewing Industry has played an important part of my life. My father served in the Grenadier Guards and after the end of WW2 found work in the local Brewery. I was born in 1948 and my “little sister” arrived three years later to complete my immediate family. As a child, I attended the local chapel before joining Primary School in 1953 for four years before moving on to Secondary School. I finally left in 1964 with a handful of O levels and enrolled in the largest university (The University of Life!).

I soon gained employment in the Accounts Office for a Rubber Company in Burton, where I worked for over 40 years only to fall victim to redundancy following a Takeover. I now work for a large Bookmakers and not surprisingly “Sport” features as one of my interests. I also enjoy reading, puzzles, quizzes and link games (especially now having found AnswerBank).

Needless to say, I also imbibe in the local liquor on a regular basis! Members of the Royal Family have often visited this area over the years and on such occasions the Brewing Industry will mash a special brew. They are particularly flavoursome. Furthermore, having both the River Trent and the Trent & Mersey Canal, I have spent many a happy hour drinking in the colourful scenery – as well as drinking in one of these special brews

Into every life a little rain must fall and for me tragedy struck in 1971, when my father died as a result of an old war wound. Consequently, at the age of 23 I decided to stay at home to look after my mother – and did so, until she passed away in 1993. The upshot is that I never married, but I enjoy being part of a close-knit extended family, thanks to my sister (who has two boys) and three 3 cousins (who between them have nine children) so I am never alone.

However, the time has come to get down to the business in hand! As far as my MM Links are concerned, I shall follow the rule on word length adopted by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter shall disclose my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past.
My first set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
