Hubby, as you may know, got color rectal cancer last October and all this year has had chemo and radio and 2 operations, one of which he is still getting over with pretty grim sypmtoms. Medical staff and work have been very good. However, McMillan told us to contact what used to be income support when his work stopped paying him. He was receiving £64 a week until 16 days after his second operation when they decided to send round a foreign gentleman, not a doctor but a "healthcare professional" who has deemed Mr ES to be fit for work and not sick. Despite his doctor, surgeon, stoma nurse, cancer nurse specialist, works doctor and lastly MP, all saying he still has to recover and will do for a further 12 months until his stomach works again, the benefits office say he is perfectly well and have stopped his benefit. We hve appealed and re-appealed. What right have these people to claim they know better than real professionals. I cannot understand a system that works like this. The stress this is causing him and myself is beyond belief. Sorry but I have to get it off my chest again. No question, just rant.

That is an absolute disgrace eyeshade.I can fully understand your anger.!!!
Have you thought of writing to your local MP to see if they can offer any help or advice....and I think your local newspaper might be interested to know how you have been treated.
Ooops, just noticed you have spoken to your MP.sorry

I am disgusted to hear this. Have you contacted your local radio? Maybe that will put the pressure on.

Gingers Uncle had a triple bypass about 6 months ago and hasn't received a penny yet. They said he was fit for work 3 months after the operation when his doctors told him he'd need about a year....he has a physical job.

It's disgusting.....

You should set up an on-line petition to send to your MP....
Why do you say that Vibra?
When there are genuinely well people who fake an injury and claim benefits thats bad enough without this - its disgraceful.
That is an outrage, how on earth do they expect him to work. My husband is in remission from cancer, and there is no way he could work. It amazes me that their appointed "healthcare professional" thinks he knows better than doctors and specialist nurses.

I sympathise with you both, I am afraid I don't know what the solution is. They don't seem to care, lots of people get away with claiming when they work, but when there are real cases they say sorry no.

Hmmmmm, I don't know much about this area, but you could try seeking legal advice. I'd be thinking about judicially reviewing this decision...........
I think Vibrasphere says that Ummm because the Tories have a long history of ranting about "Cracking down on benefit cheats".

I can't see "accepting more claims for benefits" being a big electioneering pledge in Telegraph-reader-land
Yvette Cooper is the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. She can be contacted at either her constituency address or at the Westminster offices, she may be able to help you.

Both addresses are listed on her website:

They should all be cracking down with benefit cheats...

If they managed it eyeshade and her husband might get the help they truly deserve...
I agree with what everyone else has said eyeshade - but most definately get in touch with your local paper.
Or your local tv news channel, not sure what area you are in but if in London phone London Tonight programme.

At the moment I am dealing with losts of 'foreign' professionals as my Mum has dementia, I don't think they have one commonsense brain cell between them plus my Mum can't understand a f...king word they are saying to her. It is really frustrating, so I fully understand your anger.

I wish you both well and hope this gets resolved quickly for you.

Den xx
