Aias is the Greek name for the Latin name Ajax. But I think Ajax is the more famous. Any thoughts?

Technically speaking Aias is more precise, yet, methinks The Telegraph would except eitehr Aias or Ajax ;-)

This either is right discussion just goes on and on. Have any of you ever seen a solution given by the crossword setter with alternative answers? Please treat this as a genuine need to know.

I have seen solutions where they have said that an alternative spelling was accepted (that's in cases where the letter in question is not a checked letter of course).

Tempted to stick a sticker on the back of the crossword entry with the clue number- saying both names Aias and Ajax- what does anyone else think to this idea? This way you show the crossword setter that you know both types ? Just an idea.

Unfortunately I don't know what the outcome was that time.

My personal view is to stick with the obvious i.e. Ajax

The question is - a) Do we think KM is that well-read? or b) Does she compile it out a computer program and is unaware which of the two is in more current use?
