I would imagine that a number of albums were released simultaneously, but Dire Straits' 'Brothers In Arms' is acknowledged as one of the very first.

I think its Beethovens 7:th or something like that. The CEO for Sony got complaints from his wife that you couldnt fit the hole symphony on one disk so he changed the typicall lenght to the no ruling 78 minutes or something
