The phrase "anymore for the skylark"was often heard shouted by boat-owners offering trips around harbours and seaside resorts etc,years ago.Theres not so many now.Hope that explains my reasoning
The answer to 44 will certainly be 'skylark'. Earlier, I clicked on this question to give that as the answer but tyrepill had beaten me to it. tyrepill is correct.
It is obviously a 'generation thing' as I remember the cry well from my childhood visits to the seaside.
"there are not as many as there once were" could equally apply to the boatmen, and to the actual birds which are becoming scarcer.
