David has the same number as Sylvester and they both have twice as many as Jon. Peter has three times as many as Colin, who has half as many as Paul. William has three times that which Christopher had, but poor Patrick didn't have any. Tom had just one less than Paul, but had more than David, and only four people had the same as someone else. No one had more than nine.

I knew it would be a race against time - there are some clever people on here. I like these mathematical puzzles so got a scrap of paper out as soon as I saw the question.
Well done anyway, great minds think alike.
I shouldn't have paused to double-check before hitting 'submit' I thought this question had been left alone because people thought it was too difficult - obviously not.
