tony I can't help with either of those two, my original train of thought for the second one was some sort of officer in the first world war, i am now going down a different road (probably get totally lost) i am thinking of the programme 'the office' and also a film called 'the trench' and am trying to find a link there, if i manage to crack it will let you know.
Clutching at straws here, but if you read this article you will find a MONTAGUE who signed up for army service only to spend the war writing propaganda in an office. (Montague is a forename as well as a surname is it not?)
Well, I don't have access to the quiz itself so have to go on what clues you give and with not knowing what went before etc., I am sometimes out in left field.
Thanks again ont-ice, can I be cheeky and ask for your help with the following
THE REAL THING(5,4)
TINNED MEAT DOWN UNDER(7,4)
SENIOR SERVICE(6,6)
SMOOTH TALKING NEW ENGLANDER(3,5)
OLD CHESTNUT(3,6)
