don1 - I can only narrow it down to the 4 questions asked!

Only thing I can think of for no 1) is ..WHEEL & WEAL.


Cars are sometimes referred to as Wheels...and part of Wealth ...WEALth

1. A Ford / afford ?
2. bit = gnawed and leaf start = node.
