Wallpaper indeed. Sometimes referred to as anaglypta. V.popular in the 70s and 80s.

Anaglypta is textured wallpaper (developed from Encrusta a long time ago).

Woodchip is paper with wood chips incorporated, a more modern development.

Pedantically, they are not the same thing.

They most definitely are NOT the same thing. Anaglypta is far easier to strip than woodchip. The latter clings on for dear life. You just try getting it off a ceiling without having to 'plaster-patch' afterward:-((
