CloverJo, there was a cricketer a year or two ago who issued some racist tweets when he was 20-odd. To make them noticed he tagged them #RACIST. These came to light afterhe was selected to play for England and disrupted his career for a while and England's planning.

People asked why, before selecting him, the management didn't go through his social media history and just remove the objectionable stuff. I think removal and apology would have satisfied everyone (the same for Truss), because people do understand about hindsight; but the fact that neither did this just makes them look either foolish or obstinate.
