To those of you who own antique pendulum-clocks, you may notice that your clock runs a minute or two slower during a prolonged period of heat. That is because the pendulum-rod expands slightly and lengthens thus all the gear-ratios from the great-wheel driven by the spring to the escapement mechanism which releases the energy of the spring (And the thingy that makes that tick-tock sound) are slowed down...You've been warned!

Time was when a heatwae made my pendulum rod expand ... used to speed me up though. (*_^)
yes, Togo, but there was plenty of active lubricant involved though in minute quantities.....

Togo, :)
Well that's a problem indeed, Sanmac....but not as big a problem as folk are having with their hearing aids in the heatwave.
Told Dave about the dangers but he just keeps saying.....Pardon...Pardon.

That's just the locals tripping in their solar flares.
I'm glad you can, Sanmac. Nobody here listening to me....mind you it is do the dishes time.

It certainly sounds like a pressing problem and needs to be ironed-out as soon as possible.
This should not affect "good" clocks because they have a complex pendulum which s designed to stay the same length whatever the temperature, so the timing remains constant.
Well I'll be doing that, Sanmac. Dave is not familiar with an iron.

Bhg481, yes there are clocks with compensatory pendulums, but I still consider my two clocks built in the 1840s and still keeping good time as "good" clocks.
it only affects Canadian clocks, bhg, because of the stresses of being bilingual
I've heard that law was passed in Canada that allows bilingual marriage these days.
That's certainly the stance of the Montreal Metro gnomes.

I can count up to five in French: Under the water the cat sank.
So it should be, Tony. The late MrG and I, due to a mix up with names on certificates, were the first same sex couple to marry in Canada. :-)
Some songs do sound better on holiday abroad. I also thought La Bamba and Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap sounded good on a warm Spring evening after a few drinks
Well I never knowingly went on this thread,,, hows that happened. Ignore me!
