Clacton beach, Christmas Day:
Rough seas, a bitterly cold wind and driving rain. So, obviously, it's time for . . .

Mad as a box of frogs Chris , can’t see meself wading into the North sea up to me armpits :(
No way. I wouldn't even put my hands or feet in a bowl of cold water.
I'm fascinated by the gloves - you're standing around with your (ahem) 'bits' freezing off ... yet you need to keep your hands warm??
No No and thrice NO!! Lots of our friends and family do it here....Christmas Day, Stephen's Day....raise money for this day....that day. Into the sea they go and send us photos and videos.
I may venture into the heated seaweed tubs down the road but the sea on the wild west coast? Never... :-)
If I lived by the beach I would swim every morning unless it was absolutely awful weather. (It's a 3 hour drive to the sea from here!)
Probably for doing CPR on each other, Dave.
Hands and head, dave... my stepsister does ice-swimming. Because she is a lunatic. But still wears a hat and gloves :-)
One or two mad Nederlanders too ...

Could I? Not on your nelly. Would I? Repeat as before.

Well, so far it seems that Davebro wants to join in but others are somewhat more reticent ;-)

With most of these events, there's always the excuse of "It's for charity!" but Clacton is different. There's no formal organisation and no 'good cause' to do it for. People simply turn up at 10 o'clock on Christmas morning and run into the sea because they want to! In my opinion, they're all totally bonkers but it's still fun to watch them freezing their bits off anyway ;-)
I love taking part in the for charity ones, Chris....I can write a cheque from under the cosy and warm duvet and feel as good as they do... ;-)

And yet you jumped into a pond yesterday morning when it was snowing?
Question Author
Well, they say that charity begins at home, Gness ;-)
Which one is you Chris, ?
Hey!,
You only live once.
Try everything.....

I'm the one behind the camera with several layers of warm clothing, Anne. I did wear a Santa hat though - after all, one's got to get into the spirit of things, surely?

;-)

I'll send you a route plan from Stoke to Clacton for next year then, Nailit ;-)
And yes, I am quite old

Except a vaccine or getting shot
Lol !

I would give it a go just once
There are supposed benefits from cold water swimming anyway
Wrong thread, but I guess it still fits
