Ask the people what they want, saves wasting money on presents they don't want and will never use. Alternatively give them something you want, you might get it back next year. Only very young children appreciate surprises. :o)

After years of stressing and guessing all my family now provide a list of what they want. There's a very good system on amazon itself where you can send others your gift list.
Quite frankly it's daft us sending you ideas. I want some gold earrings, would that please any of your lot?

With food hampers, I'd buy the bits individually as it's often cheaper that way.
The sorts of things I'd want include unusual ethnic spices/ingredients, books...cookery, history, interiors, vouchers to buy what I want, cosy jumpers, a new freezer.
Last year, I bought similar things for others...except the freezer ;)
But really...you should ask them what they want. Saves guess work.
