No. Totally different.

Although the core of the group remained in the form of Ronnie Lane & Kenny Jones (I,m not sure about Jimmy winston) the Faces were far more influenced by the inclusion of Rod Stewart & Ronnie Wood.

This was even extended to the presentation of the group, whereas the Smallfaces were 'top mod' out fit , the Faces were led by a singer who, as Ronnie Wood remarked 'When we were buying suits at Burtons, Rod was getting his gear from Dorothy Perkins'

Steve Marriott, the original front man and main influence in the Smallfaces was a much more blues orientated singer & went on recording with Humble Pie

Marriot was also one of the most underrated front men ever..
Ian McLagan was also the keyboard player in both bands, who along with Kenney Jones and Ronnie Lane went from the Small faces to the faces.Theres an excellent Faces web-site if you want to have a look here, with all the history etc.
Steve Marriott has the most soulful voice ever (IMHO:-)) and if you get the chance, would highly recommend the Small Faces anthology.

Definitely, Steve Marriot was great and still worth listening to.
ogdens nut gone flake was and still is a masterpiece by any standard.definately agree that the small faces were one of the most gifted, influential and progressive groups of the 60s.yet sadly they never received the recognition their talent deserved
