Dont really get involved in such threads but I just dont get the historic point of view?
I dont own slaves and blacks dont pick cotton anymore...

Why the harping on in the news about things that happened centuries ago?
Just dont get it?.
Ive NEVER encountered Raceism any where at anytime in either direction.

lucky old you but you are a white male.....
There are still visible reminders of the Afro Caribbean slave trade. Statues being one. Large country houses NS estates being another. Watch out for National Trust and English Heritage being branded a racist organisation!
As Woof said, Nailit. And we don't have to go back centuries.

//lucky old you but you are a white male...//

Who happens to have had (after nearly 55 years on this Earth) dozens of Black friends, Asian (Yellow and brown) colleagues and neighbors, and assorted acquaintances of various hues!
Never once encountered any racism or claims of racism.

But been a white male, I must therefore be a racist and responsible for the slave trade etc!
Get a grip.....
I'd answer, Nailit but your last post makes no sense at all.

And lucky old you that you wernt around when the Greeks / Egyptians / Hebrews / Romans / Muslims / et al practiced slavery!
No one said that you were racist, but to say you have never encountered racism therefore others are "harping on" about it is just plain silly.

Gness
My bad then, sorry.
But doesnt most of this stuff go back to (or harp on about) slavery?

Ive never encoutered racism.. positive or negative.
Despite mixing with a large range of people.
Call me silly if you need to but just never happened.
I just havnt actually encountred racism apart from the media/press
that's probably why you "don't get it".
Nailit, are you saying that because you haven't experienced something yourself, it doesn't exist in the ways described in the media? Then who do you think is to blame? The media, or those who have "experienced" racism? Maybe in the past, people have been reticent to report it...

...or disclose it to their white friend who seems to think that racism isn't that big a deal.

There are some here who love twisting my words...

As a white male (tho not quiet sure why been male is a sin)
I have had numerous dealings with different coloured skin tones of fellow human beings.
Not ONCE have any of those people expressed any oppressive feelings. (Nor I to them)
However, the media HAVE.

The Black people that I have known do not view white people as white suppresors or themselves as cotton pickers. The White people that I have known do not view themselves as slave owners.
Neither have any Jews, Aribs, Greeks or Egyptions that ive known (who historically have all owned slaves)
been racist.

You get a small minority...
Press pick up on it....
Sells papers!!

I honestly think that it's a sign of the current times. A lot of the things we said thirty years ago were considered playful banter, now they are considered the height of prejudice. Nobody I've ever known have pulled me up on anything I've said, but looking back, I would've been considered racist had I said them today.

We have to change and move with the times, or we will all be viewed as dinosaurs.
For all the imperialism, slavery & suffering GB supposedly caused abroad, the forefathers of BLM & BAME chose to live here but their progeny do NOT have to!
Tambo, my Asian friends who fled Kenya certainly did not choose to live in the UK, they had no choice, just as their grandparents had no choice to move from India to Kenya.
i encountered racism years ago, from both sides, whilst dating a black man, in a club, coppers called him and his friends n&&&&S and black Bstards, and i was told by black women why was i dating a black man...i got over it eventually.
Your outlook reminds me of a local yachtsman who sailed solo round the world and now denies global warming because he saw no signs of it on his journey.

I have considerably less black friends than you profess to have, but while in their company I have encountered racism on several occasions.
Barry1010 13.21. Your asian/indian friends from Kenya were probably escaping the murderous Idi Amin. India refused to accept them on the excuse that they never had indian passports. Hence UK took them in.
Try walking through parts of Blackburn of Oldham at night, you WILL encounter racism.

I suggest you ask these dozens of friends about their experience of racism.
