... and any other places where a corrupt priesthood further their own ends by baffling the gullible with instructions from a 'god' figure.

Religion has caused incalculable pain and suffering throughout the world, throughout history.

Let's grow up and say "there is no god" - we are on our own and need to take responsibility for our lives, on an individual and global level.

That was tried in the USSR but it didn't work.

They simply replaced a corrupt religious priesthood with a corrupt secular one - how about we don't have one at all?
Unfortunately you would never get that through the House of Lords because it is full of Bishops and Jews and Muslims.
Many things have caused pain and suffering throughout history, religion is only a small component. Mostly it is caused by human greed, stupidity and hubris.
High time, Dave......religion has been and still is the biggest cause of pain and suffering in our world.....x
Khandro,
History covers a long period and most of it isn't relevent to now. In recent history religion is a large component of the blame for the pain and suffering, not a small one. Of course, greed, stupidity and hubris are just the credentials needed by adherents to religions to perpetuate their myths.
Sorry I do not agree, it is only a few that ruin it for everyone that chooses to believe.
Who will ensure the removal of religion ?
gness; //......religion has been and still is the biggest cause of pain and suffering in our world//
This is the usual mantra, but look deeper and you will find that all human conflicts are fuelled by politics, tribalism, nationalism and stupidity; yes, and sometimes with reference to religion as an excuse for it's actions, but not caused by religion itself, but by it's misinterpretation.
You can't turn off religion as if it were a table lamp any more than you could uninvent the wheel.
Khandro, //not caused by religion itself//

This problem is - and so are the problems in Israel/Palestine.

You can remove its public manifestations and stop its use as a figleaf for mad/bad people who murder in its name, mamya.
....and no misinterpretation necessary.
Khandro.....It's not a mantra. My family and my upbringing has caused me to look deeper long ago.

Islay.....and aren't they a dangerous "few" who are worshiped, followed, believed......
You shouldn't need these cults to worship a God if you believe.
Polarising folk and demonising them is unlikely to help matters. One need not be any more grown up to disbelieve in a God, one merely has to not believe. Neither is believing in a God synonymous with gullibility nor absolve one from having responsibility.

Is the OP for real, or a troll ?
I really wish people would stop comparing Islam to other religions. It's impossible. Islam is not simply a religion - it is a complete way of life.
Question Author
Why would you assume I was a troll, OG - I've been around for a long long while ...
naomi; If you think the conflict in Israel/Palestine is about religion, you are naïve, it is about nothing more than territory, and anti-Semitism is also not about religion it is plain and simple racism.
Catholicism was a way of life for me....once.
I don't think the time here is relevant, it is the original post that I suggest is a troll post.

Because it implies believers are gullible, not grown up, and do not take responsibility. And suggests that which is only going to inflame believers. It just seems to be taking a dig at them all.
