Have women changed? (Answers under plain cover to FredPuli PO box...). I ask, because it seems to me that young women now buy clothes on a wear briefly and then change basis. The emphasis is on buying cheap but often, a practice that has made Sir Philip Green (Topshop etc) very rich. Thirty years ago, the women in my family would buy very few garments, more for the season or the occasion than now.My 25 year old, buying to go to the Derby, talks of not spending more than £60 or so on a dress. Years ago, such a woman would be thinking of spending a lot more but that dress would, with any luck, be good quality and would see her through Summer this year and for a few years; her mother has 'classic' frocks that have been worn every season for ten years or more.

So what do you women do?

clothes are so cheap that it is possible to do what you describe. I myself don't buy a lot of clothes for 2 reasons 1) i don't really have much spare cash and 2) i loathe shopping and because i am fat, i don't usually shop in places that sell things cheap (primark etc) BTW i wouldn't describe topshop as cheap for clothes
Disposable fashion get the seasons top looks in primark for £25 plus another 20 for the accessories wear the out then recycle them at a £5 per black bag....

Some still buy better for work b mostly its disposable... even heard of one young lady who buys new knickers in Primark every week and throws her worn ones away as she thinks its more hygienic than putting dirty undies in the wash with other clothes. She may have a point.
cheap/cheerful/////////////// we live in a disposable world now !
Mne a5e cheap and cheerful, often from Bon Marche, but i still make them last a few years. I havent got the cash to keep chopping and changing, and buying a lot of clothes.
I tend to buy quality clothes for something special and wear them year after year, but everyday wear is 'throw away' stuff.
I live in jeans and cotton vest tops so can buy these items and keep them for years. I have a couple of skirts, some smart trousers, some combat style trousers and a couple of dresses for the odd occasions that I do actually need to look a bit smarter/different. I would not spend large amounts of money on a dress I would never be likely to wear again.
Most of us have a few "posh frocks" that sit in our wardrobes for years.

Also, there are some clothes that only look right when they've been worn a bit.

Jeans, for instance.

And most shoes.

And casual jackets.

So you need to buy items that you can wear and wear, until they really become yours.
some items are classics and can be pulled out time after time.

items "in fashion" quickly go "out of fashion". now, me? I wouldn't notice, but some would.

thus, I don't buy "in fashion". I know my limits!
I'm at the age now (45 in 3 weeks) where I look at some of the stuff the younger folks are wearing and I remember it the first time it was in fashion. :-/

What is with this 80s and 90s fashion revival anyway? The stuff we wore then was hideous and it hasn't got any better!
daffy ... what do you mean "I'm at the age now ..." ??

Some of us who are 47 this year don't consider our forties to be any age at all !!!
The last dress I bought was £50 from BHS and it's not the type to go out of fashion.

The dress before that was £270 and I've worn it once, it no longer fits me!!
Has it shrunk? ;-)
No, Sandy, I did ;-)
I didn't say it was a significant age jj, I was just trying to point out that the fashion we wore in our school days has now come back into fashion.
Like straw hats?
Don't forget the blazers jj.
Yes, stripey blazers and straw hats, and pleated skirts.

Back in this Summer, lol

:0)
So If Idrag out my old school uniform I'll be trendy this summer?!?!
Hey, school wear has never been out of fashion !, well not with this guy anyway.

If you're going to spend money spend it on a LBD...
