Hi guys.

I need suggestions / inspiration for dinner Saturday night. I want to do something really special - a starter and main (don't like Pud).

I would like to do red meat for main but have no preference when it comes to the starter.

Thanks xxx

Is there a man involved NoM ?
Moules mariniere and spare ribs.....................
Romantic or just casual meal?
Beef something if there is a Man involved or some nice Venison fillet for the main course
how about prawn cocktail? there are some nice recipes out there and it is nowhere near as gross as it was in the 70's/80's when you had to eat it as a child. i do one quite often and this is a nice recipe:

Beef stroganoff for main, please
Seared scallops with chorizo or with a pea and mint puree.
Mussels.
Bruschetta.

That's a bloody good idea, Mazie. I never thought of Venison. ;)

Liking Craft's idea of mussels too.

Would love to hear more suggs.
Melon for starter, or prawn cocktail (love it)

Sibs and I will have the beef strog please.
Thai crab cakes.
Potted shrimps for starter, or a home made pate?
For starters I like to do something informal that everyone (or you and another) can sit and pick at - a smorges bord -smoked salmon on toasts, selection of cured meats and pickles etc. For main choose something that can be made in advance -at this time of year a nice beef in red wine or a beef //venison wellington that can be prepped earlier in the day and bunged in the oven before starters -a nice salad and cheeseboard is what i would serve afterwards -and coffee with liqueurs and choccies.
A chili dip to go with ummmm crab cake suggestion
Like yesterday alba, you have the prawns, I'll have the salad and dressing
Duck breast for main.

I rather fancy scallops with P&M purée AND chorizo !!

Beef strog sounds good too... drool...
Game pie would win me over no doubt! I don't like pudding either, but offer cheese and biscuits instead, most people go for that. I would usually serve a cold starter like prawn cocktail, something that I can prep up and just pop in front of people while I'm flaffin about getting mains ready. I love garlic butter mussels as a starter
seafood for starter - maybe a platter all fingers and tongues, followed by a venison wellington.

Thai crab cake and duck...oh yum...
Lol NoM, I thought it was just me who liked that combination!

Venison Wellington for main would be delish or pan fried duck breast.

I'm sure it will be lush whatever you make! :)
