why do so many denigrate, downplay our British sportsmen and women
One thread from yesterday was about Andy Murray losing. The media do this a lot. I reckon that we have some of the best sportsmen and women in the world, and should celebrate that. Some people are not interested in sport, but with the Olympics coming up, it's time for a bit of cheer. not the negativity that often pervades our nation. So well done Andy, your tears made me sad, but you will be back. As to Bradley Wiggins who took the Yellow Jersey, bravo.

Good for you em, at least Andy has done more than the "sainted Tim" (Henman) ever did.
Hope you are keeping in better health.

bravo em
We are number one at losing.
Totally agree Em, I just hope Wiggo can keep it until Paris!
If at first you don't succeed. There would be no winners without losers. It's taking part that's important.
Totally agree Em. Seems to be across all sports. The only thing I don't like about Murray is when he loses he's British and when he wins he's Scottish!
because we are riddled with sad naysayers who know the price of everything and value of nothing, who love to denigrate eveything. The sad thing is that a lot of them are British themselves. If we win they conveniently gloss over it or put it down to some sort of luck/weak opposistion/ bent officiating etc if we lose they cannot hide their glee because they love us to fail.
moonraket558 is a perfect example of the sort of snivvelling wretch I'm talking about. Conveniently glossing over the many sporting sucesses. Our main contribution to sport is inventing most of them!

didn't we beat the windies in a recent test series steve?

we won the proper Football world cup in 2003!
England cricket would have been no.1 in all three forms of the game if it had not rained. They deserve praise.

apologies for not getting back before, have been out. Rich me old mucker how have you been, well i hope. Things are still a bit dodgy, won't go into too much detail, but hopefully once we have summer, well perhaps! things might start to look up.
Question Author
no we are not No 1 at losing. Perhaps some should really look at our sportsmen and women. Many greats amongst them. I am not specifically looking at Football at the moment either.
Don't know why you felt the need to slight Henman Rich.................Tim has said that Murray is a better player than he ever was.
Watch out for Andy in the olympics - he stands a damn good chance. I thought he played so well on Sunday and it will not be long before he wins a grand slam, which I might add he is more than capable of doing - do not write him off. I also melted with Andy's speech on Sunday.
Well said Em

Brenden, i know you supported Federer on Sunday. I don't think anyone of the top players would have beaten him, i know Djkovic lost to him, he seemed to playing at a completely different level to the rest, so no disgrace for Andy who played very well.
