Pewter, far more classy and original, stainless steel smack of mass production and chep!
Have a look at the choices on offer here. Might give you a clue as to what to buy him.

pewter
some lovely tankards on reds link, there is a lovely one with the scottish thistle !!!!!!!!
Pewter. I still use the one my dad bought me, it was 21 in those days,a traditional glass bottomed tankard with the handle in the shape of a kingfisher. I never take it out of the house It means to much for me to risk it's loss. I use it most weeks and it always reminds me of Dad

thanks for your lovely answers. i'm sure my dad's is pewter too. thanks redman for that great website. i can't wait to give my son his tankard - i'm so proud of how he's turned out. he's handsome (tall, dark and strapping like his dad), polite, considerate, hard working (has had a job since he was 14),loyal and loving (been with his girlfriend for 3 years - and she is a lovely young lady), and bright (he's taking his A-levels). i had a messed up childhood, had him when i was 17, struggled with drugs and alcohol for a long time, and both me and mr kicker had to put ourselves through uni scraping and scratching a living together with no support from anyone at all - it's always just been the three of us. he is the one thing in my life that i have done absolutely right and i have no idea how! i look at him and he is such a beautiful mix of me and mr kicker - he definately got the best bits from both of us...x
Pewter.
I'm sure he's proud of you too!
lcq - beautiful. i'm sure he is proud of you as well. pewter but remember not to wash it in hot water only rinse it.
Pewter.
Consensus of opinion is pewter. Much classier. Not only that but although it is called stainless steel it bloomin' well is not. A constant cleaning and polishing is required to keep it looking nice. Pewter, definitely.
He is well deserving of his present lcg76 !
