Hi
Is anyone else stuck?
I've got all the normal clues and 'think' I've got the ingredients (if my ingredients are correct I wouldn't like to eat the result)
But I've NO idea what the 'dishes' are (has anyone else got various words like nurses & thrones?)
Any hints would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi Ripper, there are two dishes - nurses and thrones are synonyms of a word in one of the dishes

Thanks Ardboe
It's back to the Dictionary!

I'm still none the wiser!
Hi Ripper, the two dishes are both three-word phrases, with the second and third words common to both, and the first word in one is an antonym of the other. A Bobby Vee song might be a clue, if it's not before your time!

Thanks Turnerjmw
I'll have another go!
It must be my age, but at least I remember Bobby Vee!

Ok,
I 'think' I've sussed it out, except
the bottom two answers on the right hand side (SE-M) (M--D--)
Has anyone else found this as obscure as I have?
Yes, I too thought it was a bit of a struggle. Relieved to finish. Are you sure your 34d ends in S? I think it should sound like "made a mistake" and thus end in D.

So you should have DE?M and M?RD?R. Both of them are thematically related to the last word of the two dishes. One talks, and the other one won the Grand National three times in the 70s
I too struggled with this one. There were too many obscure words and definitions, though the two worded nag in the bottom middle made me groan. I am still missing one of the lower ingredients -- there are no others mentioned in any recipe that I know, but I have ?E?ONS. I also have a discrepancy with the extra letters, because there are two Rs (in nurses and above named nag), there are two Us and I have a G for the three-lettered reversed entry., which forms part of the highlighting.
Hi ulysses100, I thought that ?E?O?S was one of a pair with DRUDGES (after all, the dish is a plural), in the same way as NURSES and THRONES are a pair. As far as the letters are concerned, I think the unchecked letters in the missing words defined by extra words in clues don't count towards ONE SORTED YUM . Technically I suppose they are not unclued entries, as they are defined. So the two worder was defined by Skin in 18ac, and the one beginning with G by Started in 33dn. All a bit messy, though.
Of course, turnerjmw, thank you.
Have completed this bar one. The unclued lower left across. I have ?perne. Not really sure what I'm looking for or if I have the correct letters. Any advise gratefully recieved. I agree with the poster who said thiswas a messy puzzle.
Hi judypark, I think your first E in that clue might need looking at. I thought 34dn was URD, which would give you ?PURNE, which, when anagrammed with the correct initial letter, gives you one of the main ingredients of the "darker" of the two dishes.
Thankyou turnerjmw, all done now. This will go in partner's name as I was lucky enough to win the champers from 1141. A very nice boxed bottle too. Have it put it away for Christmas morning where we may well drink it with the subject in question.
