Amazingly I think I've actually completed this, but, I'm stuck on one answer:
Upset national supports the Italian guy (4)
The letters I have are I_AN
Logic says the answer should be ITAN, but I can find no reference to such a word, so it must be wrong
Can anyone nudge me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

Think of the Italian word for "the" to start with, and then a letter is omitted from the next bit of the wordplay.
ITAN - don't quote me on this but 'upset' could mean reverse of - upset NATIonal < ???

I haven't looked at Inquisitor yet, but like you say logic leads there!

ITAN is the Yoruba is a term for the sum total of all myths and songs.

Hi Slaney
I must be VERY thick
Italian 'the' is "il"
That leaves me with ILAN
I've got something wrong haven't I?
I have Ilan as well (Hebrew name) - do you think we're wrong?
Hi Ripper - no, you haven't - the definition is guy; if you look in Chamber's first appendix, you will find ILAN .

Thanks Slaney
I wish I was as clever as you!
Have a nice rest of the weekend
Sorry for wrong info Ripper.

I apologise for my wrong thinking!!!
Anyone found the hidden two word extract yet? Can't make consecutive fit in a straight line
You're welcome, Ripper.

serpentinew - in the preamble it says the eight consecutive squares "represent another two-worded extract", so I have highlighted eight letters in a straight line which cryptically represent the two-worded extract.
Thanks slaney - I had seen that and now understand why it is cryptically incomplete, as it were.
I have completed everything (correctly I hope!) but can't tie in the title -any hints please? I thought perhaps "The Age of" the poet?
Ardboe, it's an anagram which describes the work.
Thank you so much slaney.
