I am known as the Duck lady in our village as i have hand reared many orphaned ducklings in the past. This morning one of our neighbours brought over a badly injured Mallard who she winessed being run over outside our houses along with her ducklings one of which was killed. The person drove off and just left them in the middle of the road! Me and my partner ran around gathering up the other 10 ducklings put them in a box with mum who wasn't too good and rang the RSPCA.I found out when i got back from work that the person had been visiting another neighbour so i rang this neighbour, but she was adamant she would have stopped if she'd know what she had done. How can you run over 11 ducklings and their mum and not know?!Still waiting to see how mum is but her leg looked to be broken. So i could end up with another 10 orphans!
And of course she would of known, she would of seen them or felt something atleast.
Good on you for taking them in though, that is lovely to hear and I hope they are all ok.
Yes ttfn,it happens every year, that either the the drakes chase the females off or they have to be rescued out of the storm drains!i have a net permanently handy.Dry them off with the hair dryer and we now have a purpose built run ready to come out at anytime
my parents live right next to a duckpond and when I was young me and my siblings used to bring home lots of injured or abandoned ducklings. I have often seen groups of up to 10 squashed on road and think my god how could they, its not like they wouldnt have seen them or not been able to stop
Yes they are lardy.Sadly the mum duck had to but to sleep which is as i thought really. The ducklings are being cared for by a lady who is more equipt than me and she will release them on a nature reserve when the're old enough. At least they're safe now.
I ran over some ducklings on the duel carriage way. I couldn't stop because I would have caused an accident. It broke my heart...me and my daughter driving along crying our eyes out :-((((((
Yes it is boxtops and to cap it all i discovered this morning that the blackbird that was sitting in our hedge has been got at, found the feathers but no sign of her and 4 dead babies in the nest.I used to have cats and now i have'nt i'm beginning to dislike them!
