yes, bis. French / latin for twice. Also used as an instruction on sheet music, meaning 'play that section a second time'.
Bis means twice (usually in music)
bis - from archBISop and BIShop - twice - a direction that a section is to be repeated (musical term)

Hiding my head in shame Kettledrum & Kayakamina!! I've not been performing for a few years owing to ill health etc etc, but hadn't realised how lapsed a musician I've become!! About time I got the violin out of its case I reckon! Many thanks to you both.
Oh Annie! I do sympathise! It's seeing the word out of context that confused you .... if you'd seen it while you were playing your violin you would have known immediately. I hope your health is improving and you can get back to playing again soon.
