Are there myths surrounding this man?

According to 'Mao for Beginners' (Richard Appignanaesi), when Mao Tse Tung was at school, he was rubbish at art. For his exam, he simply drew an oval and called it 'egg'. Even so, his teachers still gave him 60%. They must have liked him.

Just remembered something else. Mao was a chain smoker, i.e. before he finished one cigarette, he used it to light up another. Even so, he still lived to be 86 (not that I'm saying smoking won't harm you!).

Sorry, the above aren't strictly myths, because they are true, but if you mean myths in the sense of trivial personal facts or legends about the personality of the man, then they're worth mentioning.

I seem to recall a history lesson where the teacher told us the myth that he had swam 8 miles down the Yangtse River though in reality it was only 3, and that was with the flow on a calm stretch, surrounded by his entourage!!

He is supposedly lying in a crystal coffin in Tiananmen Square. However there is a school of thought, which was supposed to have been proved right back in the 90s, that it is actually a wax model of the man. However, official literature still states that it is the man himself.

A myth is a "legend" based on truth...let's not confuse mythology and fantasy although the correct sense has already largely been lost through the incorrect use of the English language; (if I say "where" he English language and spelling have been mostly corrupted I will seem to really have a bias!!)Fantasies, "good yarns" general garbage" are not fantasies. hey people! I was so excited to hear some myths about mao coz im doin a drama solo on him n am having trouble finding 'myths' about him please tell me more!!! i know the facts but myths???
