I've not long bought a Netgear WG311 54mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI Card for a computer with XP. But once it's programmes have been put on, it needs to reboot. I do that but as it loads up, it asks me for a password which I never put in originally. The only way I get back into the computer is by loading a fresh copy of XP back on it. On it's box it says it's Vista ready. So I thought that it was compatability problems. So I tried downloading later versions of the programmes for XP but the same thing happens with them. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? On E-Buyer from who I bought it from says that it's requirements are XP. But why the problems?
Before I go any further, if it doesn't work, you don't need to reinstall XP. You need to press the F8 key when booting up and select Safe Mode without Networking and just uninstall, or do a system restore.
Install the Netgear driver. Do NOT use the installation utility, just browse to the driver folder and install from there. Do not reboot.
Run the small program from the link below (just in case).
h1.ripway.com/scrim_reaper/XP_FixLogon.exe
Switch off (not reboot)
Install the card
Switch on.
