god it is lucky there is no news today

he called a fetlock a pastern, didn't he? A grievous error, though I say this as someone who can't tell the rear end of a horse from a prime minister.

he was asked by leddy why he had defined pastern as the horse's ankle, and replied - sheer ignorance madam

not very clear - it seems to the the  finger bone (3rd metacarpal) that the horse walks on
