Did you have someone in mind?
I don't know but I wouldn't have thought much, now an MEP....
A bigger one than someone who worked for private companies?
Saying that, the average MP will spend their lives sucking on the public teat in one fashion or another.

I was thinking of the former MP for Wakefield. Would he still get the pension, however small it is, while in prison?
Imran Ahmad Khan paid into the pension scheme for 3 years, so is entitle to it when he retires.
He is only 48, so will have to wait 20 years before he benefits from it.
That's you told, Sandy. ;-)
Question Author
Tis, indeed. :-)
It's not often voters get the opportunity to show their distaste for both pederasty and the Tories.
I hope the people of Wakefield vote in their droves.
^ One could get the wrong impression and think you put pederasty and being Tory on a par.
Question Author
Far from it. Even the worst of Tories, with a couple of exceptions, is a level above pederasty.
But during an election it does no harm to remind the voters of the character of their former MO.

Former MP, not MO. ^^^

What difference does the character of a *former* MP make? It has to be a pretty dopey elector who allows that to influence his decision.
Question Author
Imagine an MP had inherited the seat of an illustrious predecessor. The new man might say he hopes to continue to serve the constituency as well as the previous MP had.
The Tories will hardly have mentioned Mr Khan. Their opponents have every right to do so.

Lol, who needs enemies with friends like this?
Tories held a vote of no confidence in their own candidate, which ought to tell you all you need to know.
The dopey electorate need only look at the dopey Tories.

I also dont understand why you would judge the new candidates based on the old, unless they had been involved too.

Seems like tarring all with the same brush regardless to me, totally illogical.
Doesn’t stop the ‘not every Muslim is a terrorist but every terrorist is a Muslim’ brigade though does it?
'He is only 48, so will have to wait 20 years before he benefits from it.'

Not necessarily; An MP can reduce their Normal Retirement Age (NRA) by up to three years by paying additional contributions to their pension scheme/s.
Surely State retirement age has nothing to do with it?

Pensions (not the State one) can be taken from age 55. Or are MP's treated differently?

see under 'What is my Normal Retirement Age'
Thanks ZM.

I see its effectively a final salary scheme (lucky them) but they can take it out before NRA it is just reduced.(What is an Early Retirement Reduction Waiver? just a few down).
