Who do you think should have won it - in your educated experience?

Durham.
I`ve never been there. I`m sure it's nice
I'm still confused how County Durham is a city but the official name of the county is just Durham.
I remember doing a flight to Glasgow when it was the city of culture. My colleague said "Welcome to Glasgow, the city of culture" and she laughed. She got into a shed load of trouble about that.
I'm wondering if FatticusInch has ever actually been to Bradford?

It's a fine city, with some wonderful architecture, some excellent museums (including the National Science and Media Museum), great theatres, impressive art galleries and top-rated arts hubs, such as Kala Sangam.

I have Buenchico, though admittedly some years ago. It was by train and not an experience I’d care to repeat.
Who knows though, maybe I’ll go again some day and be pleasantly surprised?
20.57 boy are you confused :-). the city of Durham is just that -Durham -the County is County Durham.
The final candidates were, Bradford, County Durham, Southampton and Wrexham County Borough.

It shows County Durham not Durham.
I’ve lived in County Durham for years and frequently visit the city of Durham. My address ends ‘County Durham ‘ though I live around 20 miles from the city.
"those behind the city's bid believe it will generate £700m and create 3,000 jobs"
Wow! They should make this award every year to a different town/city. This country would soon become a fiscal paradise!
>>> It shows County Durham not Durham

"The 2025 bidding competition has allowed for the first time, bids from regions, areas and places, including groups of towns across one or multiple local authorities, and even across the borders of the constituent countries."

The 'Durham' bid was submitted "by Durham County Council on behalf of the council, Durham University and Culture Durham Partnership":

(The city of Durham doesn't have its own council, as the County Council is a unitary authority, and it therefore couldn't bid alone).

As she should have. Completely naff/inappropriate comment.
The City of culture award is not about selecting which is the most cultured city, like an Oscars award or something.

It's about choosing somewhere that needs a bit of attention and investment for a year.
"There are men here in Glasgow who would do anything for a litre of wine."

Thanks for that CHRIS. It appears that with multiple counties joining forces to win the title, "City of Culture" is now a misnomer.
East Suffolk Council, which covers coastal towns from the border with Essex (i.e. Felixstowe) up to the border with Norfolk (i.e. Lowestoft), together with those in between (e.g. Southwold and Aldeburgh), along with inland towns such as Woodbridge, Framlingham, Halesworth and Beccles, put in a joint bid with Great Yarmouth (in neighbouring Norfolk) to become the UK City of Culture:
https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/local-council/east-suffolk-uk-city-of-culture-bid-8143810

Now that really is stretching the definition of a 'city' to its limits. If it had one, I wonder what they'd have called the 'city' as a whole, as saying that 'East Suffolk and Great Yarmouth' is the City of Culture just sounds weird to me!
"Borderlands – Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Borders Council, Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, and Northumberland County Council, together as the Borderlands partnership, announced they would launch a bid on 20 July 2021."

Should the next one not be, "Area/Region of Culture"?
@22.57.Parts of Glasgow are nice enough. The West End for example.Other parts are like Mogadishu on a bad day.
