Before I clicked on the link I guessed that some 10 year old Tweet(s) had been found.
It is a fair cop, he admits to being offensive 10 years ago. It would be hypocritical of the LibDems to put him up as a candidate, and right that he has been dropped.

Not sure what is going on with all this social media archaeology. Are they too stupid to delete their past history, or are their methods being used by journalists to recover deleted messages?
David Cameron in the past put his penis in a dead pig yet that didn't stop him.

Digging up the past, manipulating it then using it as a weapon is juvenile.

well gromit I suppose 10 years ago no one gave a rats plaster what he thought but now he's standing......Yet another reason not to touch twitface etc with a bargepole. I guess politicians feel they should have social media presence but maybe it's better not to bother.
''David Cameron in the past put his penis in a dead pig yet that didn't stop him. ''

didn't expect to read that this morning, or at any time tbh.

No politician is squeaky clean, internet has been around for long enough for folk to surely be aware that if you're going to say anything on it, then it's going to get dredged up at some point?

It is right that he has been dropped.
"Yet another reason not to touch twitface etc with a bargepole. "

Surely it is the reason to touch twitter though? So you can understand who someone is before they tried to warp the public with self promotion?
// Twitter has made every public tweet made since the service started in 2006 available through its search engine, making everyone’s first, second and third embarrassing tweets viewable by anyone.

The search index includes 100s of billions of tweets growing by several billion more each week. Tweets covering a variety of historical events, including the Arab spring, the Scottish referendum and the London 2012 Olympics are all discoverable.

But included in that huge archive of the world’s important news, thoughts and opinions, it’s now possible to find the inane, the embarrassing and the tweets we hoped had gone forever. Even the drunk ones. //

So deleted Tweets can be found using Twitters own Search Engine, which explains why so many politicos are being caught out.
I am not a fan of the lib dems so on the one hand ... another one we don’t have to listen to.

However as with this case and any other person, for me it is how they evolve as a person. What have their utterances been since? Have they at some point acknowledged a change of attitude.

I have the same thoughts and reasons I had ten years ago on some subjects but completely different ones on others. We are capable of learning and growing as people.
This is sheer nonsense and I for one of people dragging up something said 10 + years ago, often in a different context, and used to force a resignation.

He put his hands up and if there is nothing recent then there is no reason to resign.
// there is no reason to resign. //

Even if it is 10 years in the past, he was racist and homophobic. The LibDems could not possibly support him once that has come to light.

He was never going to get elected, so why waste everyones time?

But his not standing makes the already interesting seat even more marginal.

The problem with online activity is that people think that once you say something it disappears into the ether. However, when someone stands for public office (or even finds fame on television shows), there will be people who trawl through their online activity going back years.

Gromit - deleting past Twitter posts looks suspicious. And those who are performing the searches do so with keyword searches. They have the advantage.
He's entitled to his opinion.
