I think I have the answer but can't be sure as I can't find any cross connection to the word knight.

11d. Scots word meaning bump, nudge, dent or knight (4) ??NT

I believe it to be DUNT but where does 'knight' come into it? or any other suggestions?

My Scots glossary shows Dunt as hit or blow

Hi
Yes Dannyk13 - it ties in with bump, nudge and dent.............. but knight? Can't find any connection so is there another obscure scottish word that includes all four?

Thanks
Couldn't find one, sorry.
I can't find it explicitly but could it by extension mean to dub with a sword; to confer a knighthood?
Could dunt refer to the tap on the shoulder when knighted?
