Hello. A very late query from me. Lost weekend . Then my brain keeps switching off as if it was already Christmas. And I have three full days of work still to go. Anyway...

I only have one query left but I have wrestled with it and simply can't get there.
It's 46d
Ruling that Frenchman must come in for a good rest

With the letters I have "remnant" would fit and that could be "rest". M could be the Frenchman but I just can't fit it all together.

Could I make my weekly request for advice lease?

A bit tricky this crossword, wasn't it Steven?

Thank you Toorak. I didn't know that regnant meant ruling (I didn't know there was a word regnant). But I see the logic now. I am grateful

I am not sure if all the people who week in week out help me and put up with my ramblings will be able to see this exchange but I am not sure if SWMBO will allow me to spend time next weekend on crosswords (she might. Fingers crossed that I will have done enough to be in her Good Books). So, just in case I don't return until after Christmas may I wish you all a really joyful holiday. God Bless

I hope Mum does allow you some crosswording fun Steven - have a great Christmas.x
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well Steven, hope you have a good time.
The term 'regnant' is usually used to distinguish queens who rule in their own right from queens consort, who are the wives of kings. E II R is a queen regnant whilst her mother was a queen consort.

Thank you for that extra explanation, Jackdaw33. It certainly helps me ex[and my vocabulary and understanding when people add these additional points. I am pretty confident that I'll be back before the New Year and, maybe, before Christmas. But v=certainly not over the Christmas period itself.
I am glad that some of you have seen my good wishes. if you are in touch with other regulars like Lie-in King, Neveracrossword and other giants of the site, I'd be glad if they knew that I'd sent good wishes too.
Steven, I wish you & yours a Merry Christmas (whether puzzling or not) & a Happy New Year :-)
