I live in a small village, hence, no police station. The surrounding small towns have no police stations.

Over the last year or so there have been regular break ins at Spa shops, Co-ops, off licences . etc, to steal fags booze, whatever. A recent one damaged the local Spa with a stolen JCB.

In the absence of an obvious police presence I have removed my seat belt as it annoys me, who is to know anyway.

That is bait.. What if you ever wish to leave the village? Not wearing one.. OK i get that round your village but removing it completely? Not a good idea!
Heck, why not - go for it, what's the worst that could happen.

I am, of course, being flippant. I always wear my seat belt. The point is, where are the police, I cannot remember the last time I saw a beat bobby or a panda car, showing my age there.
No seatbelt. Living in the edge eh .!!
Why not be more of a rebel and drive round the village beeping your horn between 11:30pm and 7am?
A beat bobby in a small village - was this in the 1870's
Is your village within the jurisdiction of a Police Commissioner? If not I would have a word with your local MP regarding lack of police cover.
Your lucky your small village still has a shop especially if it keeps getting stolen.
I hope that you'll never see a beat bobby again. All of the evidence shows that it's an incredibly inefficient way of policing and a waste of resources.

Similarly police stations (open to the public) are of little use in an age when many crimes can be reported online or by phone. We've only got three police stations across the entire county in Suffolk, which are only open during 'office hours' from Monday to Saturday, but it doesn't seem to cause a great deal of inconvenience to most people.

I do worry that out of area crime may force closure of some shops.
It's rough if the whole shop keeps being stolen...
Spar....

As you don't seem to be in need of an officer, what's the problem?
Ever heard of Sod's Law SparklyKid ? You never know what's lurking behind those hedgerows. :-( Might be an ACC who's run all the way from Palace Green.
Question Author
I am sure the thieves are well acquainted with the police response times in certain locations.

The problem is the possible closure of local shops due to continual robberies. I would think the insurance companies have only so much allegiance.
Are they closing?
I hadn't noticed....

Not closing yet. Our local Spa has been broken into three times during the last 18 months. The costs of rebuilding the store frontage and cash machine enclosure must be enormous. I just wonder how much longer Head Office would consider the store to be viable.

Got to disagree with you there Chris. One aspect of good policing is a good local knowledge which was acquired over time by the beat bobby.
my local police uses drones to help tackle anti social behaviour. Seems to be working

As the company keep rebuilding it, it's prominent position must outweigh any criminality it attracts.
