Lib dem
how do you parse this? please could you explain?
Lib Dem
9a Lib Dem
forgive me, i realise that vince cable is a lib dem but i still can't see how this is parsed? couls someone please explain/ thanks in advance
I'll have a go at parsing, although I suspect that there's something not quite right about the clue as given.
Cable, perhaps = Vince Cable, leader of Liberal Democrats.
left = l
I ace(?) should it be: in the same place? Which could have been 'ibidem', Latin for 'in the same place'. If you 'pick out' the second I, you get 'ib dem'.
Add the first 'l' and you get Lib Dem.
Correct clue:

Cable perhaps left in the same place I picked out (3,3)

Same place = Ib Dem
Well solved bb; I knew it didn't look right and have just searched Press Reader for the correct wording (take note please badrosebud)
thank you very much captain and bookbinder, it looks as if badrosebud missed some of the clue, it was really nagging at me. i don't have the paper so icould not see the clue. thanks for putting me out of my misery, very kind of you both
Thanks, Captain. We both got there in the end! And your answer wasn't as wordy as mine!
... and we've helped fortis, also, so that's a good day's work!
