Didn't realise you were a Muslim TTT. :0)
Haha! I read it like that too, aog. That's what happens when headings change themselves!
No.

America is a free country, and part of that freedom is the ability to dress as you please within legal limits.

A political commentator made a very good point about campaigning in elections - there are the things you say when you want to be selected, then there are the things you say when you are poling, and there are the things you say when you are elected, and it is extremely rare for compete consistency across all those platforms.

I think Mr Trump will be dialling down 99% of his inflammatory rhetoric because he is not going to be Mr Trump saying whatever comes into his mind like some Tourette-afflicted redneck moron, he will be the President, and required not only to back up what he says, but to get the agreement of others to assist him in backing it up.

On that basis, his nonsense about walls and Muslims will be quietly forgotten about - unsustainable as they are.
Here we go again just like after the referendum, it was revealed that racist attacks had increased, now we have this after the US Presidential election.
Oh OK^ - so what's all the fuss about then?
//with some saying they had been warned not to wear their hijabs.//

I can see that one mother said that, but who else said it? Bit of an over-reactive headline from the Independent.
Andy > there are the things you say when you want to be selected, then there are the things you say when you are poling, and there are the things you say when you are elected...

Step forward the real Donald Trump! (Oh, and then there are emails!)
That's just it Prudie - there is no fuss - it's a newspaper taking an isolated comment from one citizen, and acting like it's an international edict for all Muslim women across the U.S.

Nonsense!

overreactive? the indy? surely not!
I suspect that a lot of things that Trump said during the campaign will be unactionable. Banning people from entering the country because of their faith is clearly against the law, and I can't see either house supporting it.

Whether bigotted and racist behaviour becomes more acceptable because Trump is President, remains to be seen. I suspect it won't be.
Gromit - I remember President Obama saying that the day after he was elected, he would close Guantanamo Bay ...

Candidates will recite the Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam backwards in Latin if it gets them votes!

As I have said, the things they say will happen to get them elected are not the things that happen when they are elected.

That's politics.
Of course the statement he made about Muslims entering the country is always 'clipped' They conveniently forget the bit where he qualifies saying 'until we get our house in order'.

I'm sure a temporary law under the guise of protecting all american citizens could be passed.

It's the comparison between being a grandparent, and being a parent -

The candidate is a grandparent - "You want chocolate? Sure, eat chocolate! You want to climb trees? No problem, climb away! You want to stay up well past bedtime? Sure, stay up with me and we'll watch TV together."

As a grandparent, you can provide all the indulgence you want, and be thought of as wonderful because you do, and that is your role.

The president is a parent - "No, you can't do those things because I have the job of showing you how the world works, which includes not having everything you want just because you want it. We have to think of other people, and talk things over, and that's the way it is."

As a parent you have to make unpopular decisions because it's the best thing in the long run. You have to provide all the difficult decisions and chjoices and be thought of as a pain because you do, and that is your role.

No need - Mr Trump is now president - the house is 'in order' - job done!
Perhaps if countries were more careful who they allow into their countries, then they wouldn't leave themselves open to the terrorist attacks that we have seen take place not only in America but also throughout Europe?
Well yes AOG, that is what The Donald wishes for.

Being elected is only the first step. There is still a long way to go before the house is in order. There are many Washington liberal elites to be removed first.

Careful in what way?

The only way to be sure that any immigrant is not a terrorist is to examine them with a mind-reading machine and a crystal ball!

Until they become available, terrorists will enjoy the free movement that is the product of a free world.
Now that the Republicans have got control of the Senate and the House of Reps ; and Mr T will appoint a republican leaning judge to the Supreme court ; it will be easier than would be the case for Mr T to push through more of his plans

Not so.
