thank you everybody, FT pink doh!
For years it didn't occur to me to ask why it was pink, then I looked it up.

Financial Times

In 1893, to differentiate it from its rival, the Financial News, the FT switched to its distinctive shade of salmon pink- a masterstroke which made it immediately distinguishable from its main competitor. (Note: the two papers eventually merged in 1945 as a single (pink) newspaper).
