Went to post office. Wanted to increase premium bond holding. Told they don't deal with them anymore. I have to either phone or go on line.
I mentioned an ISA I had, would I be able to add to it. Was told they don't deal with that anymore, I have to either phone or go on line.

Make life difficult by not advertising what they no longer do?
I'm surprised they didn't tell you. Whenever I go for stamps they then come out with "Anything else I can do for you today?" - if I answered in the affirmative I assume they'd tell me.
its a sneaky way to close more Post Offices imo. Governments bang on about choice, and then ignore the fact that a lot of people prefer to use face to face services rather than using the internet
I also want to buy some premium bonds, but I want to see someone face-to-face to explain that I keep my finances in my maiden name so that any winnings would go to a bank account in that name. I can't see how to do it on line - and wouldn't bank on line anyway - and I can't get through on the phone. I want to buy quite a lot because interest rates are so very poor.
Jordan my old boss would buy £5000 batch at a time hold them for 6 months then cash them in and repurchase another batch.
Although no logic his theory was that new numbers came up more frequently for the smaller prizes - worked for him
That's a "myth" which the organisers persistently deny Tony - but my experience suggests that my most recently purchased tranche seems favoured.
I had a big surprise this week to find that my local post office (counters in a general corner type shop) has extended its opening hours. Now 6am-6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am - 2pm on a Sunday. 12 hours x 6 days a week is impressive.
My solitary bond was bought for me in 1970, so I've no chance then.
People have bought quite a lot for my son, born in the 90s, but he's never won a bean.
Nothing is simple at the post office, in my experience.

They don't even take your parcels from you any more, you have to go onto a machine asking you allsorts of questions and post them yourself !!
Canary well done. I know it's a "myth" but was only recounting what he did might buy a tranche this evening
Canary tried to buy some tonight what a nightmare site for 1st time buy gave up

Ed, you obviously haven't been served by the staff at my local Post Office

I found some PREMIUM BOND certs that I had forgotten about, I wrote to ask had I cashed them or were they still active. I got five seperate letters back from NS&I, all telling me things but not the whole picture, they all came in the same post & luckily the last one I opened said yes they are still active, why on earth send 5 separate letters ?
