Thanks as always Daniel.
I'm a runner-up again!
Well done whatsthat - you should get your cheque in about 3 weeks. My £30 one for winnimng 2193 came this week.
Quite a fun puzzle today and I do like the author.
Just one little detail to be cleared up. Can anyone explain the wordplay for 19d? Clue: "Sailor's rung with confused directions for convenience" 7 letters, ?ATR?N? Answer presumably "latrine", but is the sailor the "tar" anagram in the middle? What about the "confused directions"? I'm sure s'body can help out immediately!
Problem now solved, thank you!
Well done whatsthat.

I loved the quotation the first time I read it.

Thanks as always Daniel.
I've completed the answers to the clues but despair as I feel totally lost in identifying the initials....ID? I don't watch comedy on TV. Am I seriously astray?
Has that name of yours, truron, got anything to do with truro?
Hi Truron! The initials of those of a comedian known for his one-liners. Google King of the one-liners and all will become clear.
TV truron Tim Vine ..just look him up at the edinburgh festival last year .
Thank you Novalis & Shaneystar for extending my knowledge into a new sphere.
The reply to DTC wordfan is "yes" (but I am not the Diocesan Bishop)
