indeed !
why not
yeah--why not
Limekin is hidden in the clue (backwards).

Don't know about chainsaw.
if you would like to maximise those willing to help you stephenj I'd suggest supplying the clue and any letters you may already have in situ - not everyone has clues to every crossword on the go!

Thanks for advice, carmalee. Forgive a neophyte.

27a -h-a-s-w (Staying cryptically rendered for this cutter)
17,19a b-t, t-e (That piece on which control's tight -that's boring!)
27a - certainly looks like chainsaw - can only come up with a very tenuous connection which is 'staying'= was in (backwards (crtptically) in the clue) for a cutter is obviously chain saw - am sure the boffs will solve it to your satisfaction later on today.
For the other one Bit Tie fits and a bittie is necktie (?control) for nerds (?boring) - very tenuous again but all I can come up with - sorry
17,19a b-t, t-e (That piece on which control's tight -that's boring!)

Should that be t-e, b-t?
Question Author
Yes it should. t-e b-t
I think it's "THE BIT"
good one telescoper
The wordplay for CHAINSAW is T in SAYING, i.e. CHA in SAW
