I went to my local Halifax today to pay in 3 small cheques[ I went on Sat but it was 12.01 and they shut the door in my face], new rules are you have to now fill in a paying in slip with total amount paying in and all your bank details which they can do with one swipe of your debit card, anyway a young lady employee was topping up the slips and I was having difficulty adding up so I said to her I dont see why we have to do this and she replied in a very nasty tone "why should we have to do it for you" well excuse me but I thought that money generated from clients paid their wages ?

It does....maybe you should have said that.
Like Victor, you have something valid to moan about, and like him all others will seem to be able to do is laugh and consider you the one in the worng.

We need to moan when being got at by idiotic society, or else we have given up on everything.
tell them that you intend taking your business elsewhere, and that you do not have to put up with snotty comments
I know Dee Sa, its really annoying, they used to swipe your card and type all the details of the cheques in. Probably don't want to break their extremely long false nails. (That might be just my branch though ).

Have you tried that automated machine where you put your card in and then feed the cheques in yourself. Its great - the only problem is, don't every feed vast amounts of bank notes in. I was in Romford branch and some poor bloke fed £300 in and the machine chewed it all up - they had to dismantle the machine to find the bits of bank notes, so he could prove he actually put the 300 quid in. His language was very colourful.....hahaha
Dee Sa.....well if something went wrong with the transaction ( as it often does with banks) then it would be you who made the mistake completely absolving the teller.

If she had filled in the details for you and the transaction was inaccurate, then you would have blamed her and the bank.
I sort the paying in slip before I go to the bank, what annoys me is folk who don't thinking they can pretend to be in the queue and at the desk filling in a form at the same time. No, that's queue jumping, the rest of us have done our slips. I don't understand why everyone doesn't fill in the slip beforehand anyway. Presumably you want a record of the transaction in your book. Do you get that by swiping cards ?
Yes, Old Geezer - they give you a recipt which is printed after you have paid the cheques in.
And if you pay them in at the machine they also print a copy of the cheque.
Ah ! New fangled systems eh ? Still, they are determined to do away with cheques soon anyway. Did you notice they no longer allow you to use your card as a cheque guarantee card ! Gradually manipulating things until they die off despite being a necessary service.
cheques...??? you on the electric yet?
i use cheques to pay the enormous electricity bill, they want us to do direct debit, but they can get stuffed.
If you are not happy with the service, why not try asking to see the branch manager and complaining?
ive said it before and i'll say it again, i use at least six cheques a month!
potheczechst
What`s a cheque? Que???
My bank (HSBC) will not allow customers to pay bills at the counter at lunchtime
I would certainly write in to the Halifax and mention this. sounds like someone was having an off day, but regardless of this a gentle explanation of why you have to fill in the slip would not come amiss. I bank with the Co-op and can give in my debit card with a cheque and they fill in a slip for me...why not try there.

she was a stroppy bit of goods and I am 70+ I am worried that if she has my name & address my tyres might get slashed or worse.
Fill in the slip yourself but make a deliberate mistake in the total crediting yourself with an extra tenner - when she queries it, say it's your fee for doing her job for her.
