Thank you to everyone for their kind wishes and words of advice on my previous thread RE: My Mum.
Shes now in hospital. District nurses were unable to administer adaquate pain relief so the descision was made to take her to hospital fo 24/7 pain relief.
Told that due to my mum been unable to swallow (liquids or solids) that she now has only a few days to live tops. But she's comfortable even tho the plan was to keep her at home
Dougie Mac's answer was to stick a suppositary pain killer up her ass!
Never in a million years will I give a penny to Macmillan again.
She's now on an end of life ward with proffessionals .
Thank God for the NHS....
Really sorry, to hear that, nailit xx I was asking how long she had been on syringe driver, because in my experience, it means a few hours to 2 weeks (but usually 4 days). She is a very tough lady.
I am sorry she has had to move- but really glad you have been there for her xx
Thank you everyone.
Pix, She's been on a syringe driver approx 2 weeks, with sub-cuts inbetween (Had to call the district nurses out to those during night shifts)
Myself, one of my sisters, and my niece were all prepared to give 24/7 family care...night sits etc ...but couldnt provide around the clock proffessional care.
(Niether could Dougie Mac apparently)
Sorry if I go on a bit about MacMillan,
but they have been less than useless.
In fact I would go so far as to say that they have been dangerous in some of the interactions between GP, District nurses and carers...

The Douglas Macmillan Hospice charity (which only operates in your area and is unknown to most people elsewhere in the UK) is totally separate to Macmillan Cancer Support (which operates throughout the UK and works in close partnership with the NHS). Don't knock the (excellent) national charity because of the apparent failings of your local one.
Nailit, I don't understand what has happened. Normally, anything you can get in a nursing or carehome, you can get in your own home as well. No exceptions. I am so sorry she has been let down.
Keep in touch with us? Xx
She's more comfortable now, Nailit. I expect you all feel relieved she is getting round the clock care, pain relief.
My Mum was on a syringe driver, and lasted 4 days. Such a draining time but such a relief when your loved one is finally out of it. You've done your best. I'm sure your Mum knows this and us very proud of you. x
//24/7 family care is perfectly acceptable with a syringe driver.//
No it bloody wasnt!!!
Whoever sat the night with her (whether me, my sister or niece) had to endure her crying in pain untill district nurses came out to administer another pain relief injection.
