And the knotted hanky i'm assuming was the "In thing" before the flurry of great hats and head gear were invented.There are better ways to keep cool and refreshed by your headgear as you can see here.

I'm with Sandy re. socks and sandals - the socks often add just that little protection from rubbing, and it's really very practical as your feet are neither too hot nor too cold.
Sadly, convention dictates you are either a Pakistani pensioner or a fashion f-wit.
