I think Zacsmaster was saying it was pointless because this sort of question can easily be answered using google.
And it is delightful for those of us who skim through answerbank and find answers to questions we never thought to ask.
None of the explanations in the wiki article were known to me; I thought it was from the old american usage of "indian" to imply that something was fake - like "Indian giver". Rather an un-PC usage now, of course, if not actually racist.
