My first visit to an ice-cream van after I had moved from the East to West coast ended in tragedy (that is, empty handed). I asked for a 'slider' and they said they didn't do them. I walked away and it took me months to work it out! Has anyone else had this problem?

When I was little we called them sliders in Lancashire.

A "slider" = a wafer! A "black man" (I know, I know) = a nougat! If only I had known this before I spent a year having to do with cones!
you could be worse, we here in this park of the country call a cone a POKE

Poorclare, in Scotland (I don't know if this is regional or not) we used to refer to a paper bag as a paper poke!

eg, "Gie's a single fish an' a poke o chips please!"

I haven't heard the word used in decades though!
I may have to start a one man crusade to bring it back now lol
