My son and his GF went up to a park today (because they can) and saw a foreign 'gentleman' let his kids stamp on on poorly pigeon and then kick it under a car.
When questioned he replied 'No understand English'
If I had been there he bloody would..

Nothing to do with nationality,,,just bloody shathouses whatever country you come from!

Other cultures have attitudes to animals, especially towards their care and welfare, that are in a different universe from ours.

This family may have come from a country where the slaughter of birds or animals was a matter of routine, and putting a creature out of its misery is seen as an act of kindness.

I can only speculate of course, I wasn't there, but I am willing to bet that cultural differences were in play here.
One doesn't need language to understand cruelty, awful behaviour.

No doubt. The kids were laughing, thought it was great fun. Not the type of 'culture' that I'd like to entertain thanks.
One of my cousins did this in Australia when I was there many years ago. She said it was the kindest thing to do after her cat had mauled it. I was left shocked and upset by the incident.

I used to rescue and set free little mice when Tigger brought them into the house.

One culture's cruelty is another country's tradition and entertainment - look at bullfighting.
Children laughing (and not being told it's wrong) whilst stamping the remains of life from a creature is cruel.

No amount of redirection from you will change my opinion Andy.

Letting ones kids stamp on injured pigeons is no-ones tradition or entertainment,
Sicko if you defend it!!
Did your son and girlfriend remonstrate with the gentleman?

As much as they dared Tills. He was a bit aggressive by all accounts. Defending his kids and such.
Perhaps being raised in the "Religion of Peace" culcha Nails. Not allowed to be critical I'm afraid duck. You must try to understand their traditions and be respectful of them at all times, otherwise Plod's "hate crimes" squad will be on you like a ton of pitta bread. Wesport Lake has gone down the nick.

I'd have chewed his head off!
Yes excusing disgusting, stoneage, beastial behavior ,as a get out clause, is always the way to try to persuade people in this so called civilised country to shrug our shoulders and accept it is the culture of other 'guests' here.I recall young kids being encouraged by their Islamic parents to cut off their Teddy Bear's head with a Rambo knife and pretend they were heads of infidels. Some civilisation.

I assure you I was not offering 'redirection' - I agree entirely that this was inexcusable cruelty, and it's a shame there was no police around to apprehend the father and point out a few facts about the way animals and birds are treated here.

I dont know if these were muslims or not. Just that they were foreign and didnt speake English that well.
nailit - // Letting ones kids stamp on injured pigeons is no-ones tradition or entertainment,

I was not suggesting for a minute that it was - merely offering a possible explanation for the father's behaviour.

But offering an explanation for something is not the same as condoning it, or excusing it, and I do neither I assure you.
You don't know whether they were Muslims but the heavy mob sure does and they weren't even there.

For the third, and hopefully last time, I was not excusing or condoning this incident for a moment.

I don't think that anyone should excuse barbaric behaviour on the basis that other people do things differently - that just makes their behaviour and attitudes different, it does not make them right.
